Breaking: 150,000 Japanese Troops Seize Busan

On the morning of April 13, 1592, hundreds of Japanese warships appeared off the coast of Busan. This was the beginning of the Imjin War. Toyotomi Hideyoshi, using the pretext of conquering Ming China, sent 160,000 troops into Joseon. Busanjin Fortress fell in
just one day, and Dongrae Fortress collapsed within days. The Japanese forces advanced northward toward Hanyang with unstoppable momentum. The royal court was divided and the people fled as refugees. Yet in this crisis, Joseon would meet its hero: Yi Sun-sin.

Field Report: Battle of Hansando

In August 1592, Admiral Yi Sun-sin's naval forces decisively defeated the Japanese fleet off Hansando. Using the 'crane wing' formation, Joseon's navy sank or captured 59 of Japan's 73 warships in this battle. The Turtle Ship led the vanguard, disrupting enemy formations. This victory blocked Japan's advance into the Yellow Sea and began to turn the tide of the war in Joseon's favor.
